How to Get Rid of a Sore Throat Fast

Of all the sore throat remedies I’ve tried, and with two kids the list is quite long, nothing comes close to the power of common sage herb. Although mainly used in cooking (turkey stuffing, pasta sauces etc.) this originally Mediterranean plant is getting more and more appreciated in the world for its incredible healing properties.

Common sage or Salvia Officinalis was highly appreciated in ancient Rome. In fact, its very name is the best proof of that fact – Salvia comes from the latin word “salvere” which means “to save” or “to heal”. It was a widely used remedy in most households back in those days and considered a life saver very often.

Sage works miraculously no matter what virus or bacteria you fight. Every time someone in my family has a sore throat we apply the below remedy and the very next morning the throat is not sore anymore. I’m not talking about less ache, but not ache at all. In several occasions when my kids were younger this remedy saved us from taking antibiotics for strep throat and that scary image of red throat with white patches was almost completely gone within a day or two. I guess it was then when I decided to have this wonderful herb always around.

So here’s how to get rid of a sore throat fast:

Take 1 cup of water and bring it to boil.

Add 3 to 4 dried sage leaves and let it boil for a minute or two.

Set it aside to cool down.

Remove the leaves and gargle with this liquid (use the whole cup).

DO NOT SWALLOW! It is too strong to be consumed as a tea.

How often should it be done:

We repeat it several times throughout the day for several days. This routine can be used both for acute conditions and as a prevention during flu season or a strep outbreak in your kid’s school for example.

Where to buy dried sage leaves:

I am happy to be able to pick fresh and clean sage on the Adriatic coastline each spring and dry it myself. If you’re not that lucky to grow your own herb, dried sage leaves are available on Amazon.

That’s it. I hope you give sage herb a chance. It will not let you down. It worked every single time for my family and me.
