Think of your body as a car and your metabolism is the engine that keeps it going. The faster your metabolism, the more calories you burn and lose weight.
Even though your metabolism can help you shred calories when you’re not working out, it can only do so if you treat it the properly. You most definitely can’t do anything about factors like age, genetics or weight (initially) but what you can do is follow advice about how to treat your body and keep it healthy and running smoothly. If you respect your body it will show you gratitude.
Get Some Shut-eye
Your body rests best between 11 p.m. and 5 am. While there are numerous researches showing the exact number of hours a human body needs to recuperate during the night, this might be more personal, but what’s also important is the time you actually do go to bed. Optimally, between 6 and 8 hours of sleep works best and your body will be grateful in the morning. Besides the lack of puffy eyes and cranky morning feeling, studies show that people who sleep more actually move more during the following day, meaning they burn more calories. Don’t Forget to Eat One of the worst things you can do for your metabolism is skip the most important meal of the day and that is breakfast.
Rise early
Studies show that not eating within the first hour of waking up actually slows down your metabolism and makes your body hold on to the fat you’re trying to lose because it wants to conserve energy. Not to mention it changes your blood sugar levels and your body starts burning your muscle instead of fat. That is why it is important to get yourself a healthy breakfast each morning and coffee doesn’t count! If you have a demanding work schedule and don’t have time to go out, there is the option of ordering in- in these cases it is always better to opt for office fruit delivery than getting a sandwich or pizza, not to mention store-bought snacks such as candy bars or even healthy bars. Many of these contain additives and artificial sweeteners that are bad for your body and will slow your metabolism down.
Watch what you eat
Instead of picking products infused with aspartame, artificial colouring and high fructose corn syrup and many other harmful additives and chemicals, just go for fruits and nuts such as cashews and almonds- they make perfect snacks and are a sufficient intake of good fats and vitamins. Workout You probably know that working out is one of the best and healthiest ways to shed calories but what you might not know is that it is actually better to work out in the morning.
Get to the Gym
Morning workouts will increase your muscle mass and more muscle means a faster metabolism. If you don’t have a lot of time, try getting even a short workout in the morning and it will increase you post-workout calorie burn by as much as 100 to 200 calories.Try including high intensity cardio workouts and don’t forget to pump some iron as well- adding as little as 10 pounds of lean muscle to your body will increase your daily calorie burn by around a 100 calories. And when at work, try not to sit still for more than 20 minutes at a time- that is the amount of time that it takes to inhibit your metabolism. So try walking around your office as much as you can and doing some static exercises while you are sitting.
